A Mexican Holiday Cinco de Mayo

 Literally translating to "May 5th," A Mexican holiday called Cinco de Mayo Décor honors the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. During France's effort to colonize Mexico, it was one of the few wins for Mexico. France would be able to take advantage of Mexico's natural resources and aid the U.S. Confederacy if it were taken over.

What customs surround Cinco de Mayo?

The Puebla Battle

6,000 French soldiers led by General Charles Latrille de Lorencez launched an assault on the little town of Puebla de Los Angeles in east-central Mexico, confident that they would succeed quickly. Juárez assembled a ragtag force of 2,000 faithful men from his new headquarters in the north, many of them were either Indigenous Mexicans or of mixed origin, and dispatched them to Puebla.

General Ignacio Zaragoza, a Texas native, led the massively outnumbered and inadequately equipped Mexican forces as they entrenched the town and prepared for the French assault. Lorencez collected his army in front of Puebla on May 5, 1862, and led an assault with the help of heavy artillery.
